Stealing the secrets goes with the job
Article Abstract:
It is currently not a criminal offence in the UK for an employee to steal confidential information from an employer. The Law Commission is currently working on a consultation paper on whether there should be criminal liability for the misuse of trade secrets. However, this issue presents a number of difficulties. It is hard to define exactly what a trade secret is, for example, and it is uncertain whether somebody should be forced in civil proceedings to reveal something which could be used against them in criminal action.

The continuing toll of Britain's most hated tax
Article Abstract:
The poll tax continues to attract considerable controversy in the UK. Local authorities are attempting to recover arrears of more than 0.5 billion pounds sterling from 1990 to 1992, the two years the tax was in operation. Some 22,000 people were jailed for defaulting on fines and poll tax in 1996. This figure is now falling, but new poll tax cases are still arising. Some local authorities seem to have accelerated their efforts to pursue arrears to avoid debts lapsing.

This woman wants to work in a caring profession
Article Abstract:
The legal profession in the UK can sometimes appear to be very arrogant, according to new Legal Services Ombudsman Ann Abraham. She believes that her main role is to bring about a balance between lawyers and their clients. She will ensure that a complainant gets a fair hearing, but will not necessarily be harsh on the legal profession as a matter of principle. She believes that there are some vital issues which the legal profession must address.
