The real threat of Iranian terrorism
Article Abstract:
It is widely agreed among experts that Iranian extremists post little threat to western targets in the US or Europe. This is even accepted by US officials, even though the US has help Iran responsible for a number of terrorist attacks outside Iranian territory. Policy on Iran is now causing splits between the US and Europe. The US feels that it is making sacrifices in order to take a strong line against Iran, but that this stance is being undermined by the actions of European governments, which fail to prevent their companies from profiting from trade with Iran.

The strange case of Britain's 'spy' in a Moscow jail
Article Abstract:
The arrest of 28-year-old Platon Obukhov was hailed by the Russian security service as a great breakthrough, breaking a ring of super-spies. However, no other arrests have been made, and further embarrassment has been caused to the security service by the revelation that Obukhov has a history of mental health problems. The security service is finding it very hard to present this sad figure as an evil super-spy. It claims that he became mentally ill after spying for British intelligence and that he can therefore be treated and stand trial.

Not a bunch of spies, just a devout religious people
Article Abstract:
The Bahai Faith is a religious group in Iran which is oppressed and considered by the Iranians as a group of spies. Article 13 of the Iranian constitution permits various other religious minorities their rights but, like the Koran, does not make any reference to the Bahai. There has been no capital punishment carried out on Bahai members since 1992, and there are now just eight in jail. In 1989 212 were put to death for alleged theft, spying, murder and offences against the state.
