Who do you think you're calling a dummy?
Article Abstract:
Adel Rootstein's factory in Earls Court, London makes mannequins of models for lingerie and fashion shops. In the 1960s Ms Rootstein employed classically trained sculptor John Taylor to make accurate models from life, although they are more perfect than the reality. Fatter, shorter and mature mannequins do not sell. Male models account for 20% of the company's production in 1992, whereas in the 1970s they were hardly used. Black and ethnic mannequins are not in demand. In 1992 the business sold 20,000 dummies a year for 500 pounds sterling each.

The role of the kitchen underwent a significant change in the 1980s, according to stainless steel kitchen equipment manufacturer Alessi General Manager Alberto Alessi. The company has benefited significantly from links with high-profile designers like Philippe Starck. He feels that Alessi must constantly change, and emphasizes the importance of being aware of likely future trends.
