Stuck on the slow track to Europe
Article Abstract:
Governments across Europe are now having to deal with the conflict between the need for a transport infrastructure to allow competitive business and the opposition of the general public to environmental damage. These tensions have largely been handled successfully in France, Germany and the Netherlands, while in the UK business confidence in the government's transport policy has fallen to very low levels. UK investment in transport infrastructure has been much lower than the European average, and transport policy has remained uncoordinated.

Britain's failure, or all Europe's?
Article Abstract:
There is a feeling of dejection in Europe is caused by incomprehension of the system and apprehension about the future. The end of the Cold War has left a void in which a new international system is sought. Uncertainty prevents states from solving the economic crisis. Globalisation has created a crisis of politics. The fundamental principles of the EC should help these problems, but Europeans are indifferent to it.
