Students may be given more time to think

Article Abstract:

British potential university students may be allowed more time to select a course, since admission officials at universities are considering an extension of the deadline for applications. Students have to decide by Dec 15 which course they wish to follow from Oct of the following year. The examination system is also to change, with students to take AS-level exams the year before their final A-level exams in school, and universities will be able to take AS-levls into account.

Asian concerns such as South Korean conglomerate Lucky Goldstar are being increasingly attracted to Wales, where average earnings are considerably lower than the European average. Some 104,000 people in Wales earn less than 3 pounds sterling an hour, and there is considerable job insecurity. The Welsh Office and the Welsh Development Agency continue to invest large amounts of taxpayers' money in attracting foreign investors.

The decrease in tourism income in central Wales during the summer of 2001 due to the foot and mouth disease crisis is examined in detail. The slaughter of 4,000 sheep across the Beacon Beacons has deterred tourists and hurt the local economy.
