Sviatoslav Richter
Article Abstract:
Sviatoslav Richter was a pianist who was born in Ukraine in 1915 and studied at the Moscow Conservatoire, Russia, under Heinrich Neuhaus. He first played in the West in 1960 and was able to play Prokofiev from memory. He also played Schubert and Chopin. He recorded music at night in order to be free from interruptions and has left more than 130 CDs. He played with the Borodin Quartet as well as accompanying singers and his wife, a Moscow Conservatoire professor.
