Symphony bids farewell to unrattled Smith
Article Abstract:
Being in charge of an orchestra has become an extremely challenging task, according to outgoing City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra Chief Executive Ed Smith. He feels that there are too many initiatives designed to attract new funding or different sorts of audiences, while in reality orchestras simply have to adapt to having less money. He emphasizes that it is very unlikely that the orchestra will be able to continue to perform its current range of work to its existing high standard unless it receives more public funding.
