Tammy Wynette
Article Abstract:
Singer Tammy Wynette was convinced as a child that she wanted a career in music. However, she married before finishing high school and had three children. She was unable to work because her third child was ill, and accumulated large debts. This prompted her to return to her ambition to be a professional singer. She sang in several different southern night clubs, and began to build up a small following. She was signed to Epic Records in 1966, and became an almost overnight success. She performed for three US presidents, and in 1991 received the 'Living Legend Award' from Music City News and TNN.
