Tell the global financial architects to pay more attention to the poor
Article Abstract:
Leading industrial countries seeking to establish a new architecture for the world economic system have failed to take into account the needs of the poorest people in the world. It is clear that the world's poorest inhabitants can only be assisted if the emerging market currencies are permitted to float, as countries with pegged currencies run out of foreign reserves too frequently. Emerging market countries should not take short-term loans from international banks, and should not seek assistance from the International Monetary Fund, which has often given advice that has made economic problems worse.
