Ten years a winner in any language
Article Abstract:
Sianel 4 Cymru (S4C), the Welsh language television channel, celebrates its tenth anniversary in 1992. It will add English subtitles to 75% of its programmes from 1992-1994 to satisfy non-Wesh speakers living in Wales and specialise in universal cartoons which can change soundtracks easily. The Treasury will fund S4C directly after Jan 1993. Many small animation companies provide work in Cardiff and 18 companies in Gwynnedd, north-west Wales, employ Welsh speakers. Huw Jones founded Barcud, a television facilities company, at Caernarvon, Wales in 1982 because he is passionate about the survival of the Welsh language.

No churchyard grave should hold him
Article Abstract:
The inhabitants of the village of Much Marcle have expressed opposition to the possibility that the grave of murderer Frederick West could be situated there. They fear that the grave would attract many visitors and that it would taint the village with an evil atmosphere. It would be much better if West's family were to choose a quiet cremation instead, then scatter his ashes in a remote place.

The bus broke down, but the show goes on
Article Abstract:
Cable television has been slow to take off in the UK, and programmers must still battle with very low budgets and poor ratings. Some have managed to recruit well-known presenters, and have found that live programmes are the cheapest type of programming. With small audience numbers, break-even costs are very high, and it will be several years before cable television starts to show a profit.
