Backbench Tories rally to 'much-admired minister.' (House of Commons debate on the investigation into arms supplies to Iran)
Article Abstract:
Conservative backbench MPs have expressed support for Jonathan Aitken, chief secretary to the treasury as he defends his involvement in the airms-for-Iran affair. He was a director of weapons company BMARC for two years from 1988, but denies any knowledge that the company was supplying naval guns to Iran via Singapore. The Labour party claims that he was employed by BMARC because of his knowledge of the Middle East.
