The British empire of editors
Article Abstract:
US journalists are becoming concerned over senior jobs in American magazines such as Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, New Republic and New Yorker going to British journalists and editors. The Columbia Journalism Review organised a meeting where a panel of four ex-British journalists now working in the US spoke to an audience of US journalists about the UK influx. The panel all said that legal restrictions applying in the UK do not hamper US journalist, but they do not take sufficient advantage of the fact and do not have such highly developed writing and presentation abilities. In fact, the US journalist tends to be rather boring in comparison.

Brave show becomes a wake for a navy that's had its day
Article Abstract:
Sevastopol celebrated Navy Day with the Black Sea Fleet for the last time as Russia and Ukraine argue over its future. The fleet's large warships will be scrapped. Job losses are expected when the fleet is halved and becomes Ukrainian. Property worth 80 billion roubles - 320 million pounds sterling - consisting of 45 large ships, 300 smaller ships 150 aircraft and 28 helicopters will probably be divided between Russia and Ukraine. Meanwhile, high command, which is mostly Russian, discriminates against Ukarainian officers.

Just leave the experts out of this
Article Abstract:
Woody Allen, 57, lost the right to look after his three children in his custody case. He found that someone accused of child molestation is assumed to be guilty, the children's best interests are not the main issue, and that there is no fast solution to help the children concerned. Judge Wilk refused to give expert witnesses more credence than they deserved and found the evidence of sexual abuse inconclusive. However, he ruled that Allen's self-absorbed character was not ideal for parenting.
