The man who saved Compaq from clones
Article Abstract:
Leading personal computer manufactuer Compaq has seen a considerable improvement in its fortunes since Eckhard Pfeiffer became chief executive in 1991. He moved the company towards selling computers directly to the public by mail, he undertook extensive cost-cutting and sought new markets and sources of manufacturing. The company now has a rapidly expanding sales operation in Japan, along with production facilities in China and Brazil. Pfeiffer also encouraged the company to seek a second source for its microprocessors, bringing Intel more closely into conflict with AMD.

Are our lifers safe in their vans?
Article Abstract:
Group 4 trains private security men for seven weeks to escort remand prisoners to court. Group 4 won a five-year contract for the prisoner escort service in the East Midlands and Humberside. This covers 1 in 10 of all prisoner movements in the UK and saves much valuable police time. The first week three prisoners escaped and one was mistakenly ordered to be freed. The Prison Service Agency approved the trucks which were specially built.
