The General's war of words
Article Abstract:
General Wesley Clark, supreme commander of Nato forces in the conflict in Kosovo, Yugoslavia, was wrong to claim that Nato destroyed many Serb tanks and armoured personnel carriers. Journalists who witnessed the Serb withdrawal from Kosovo saw many completely undamaged tanks and armoured personnel carriers, as these vehicles had been cleverly hidden by the Serbs. It is unlikely that, as Nato claims, the Serbs removed the evidence of equipment damaged by Nato bombing. Some observers suspect that Nato was unwilling to risk the lives of any western soldiers to protect the Kosovo Albanians.

Belgrade tense after police beat Draskovic
Article Abstract:
The leader of the Serbian Renewal Movement, Serbia's biggest opposition party, Vuk Draskovic was arrested and beaten by police, suffering head fractures, teeth loss and internal bleeding and was admitted to hospital for surgery. This followed rioting outside the Yugoslav parliament and the death of a policeman. Doctors revealed that Draskovic, 47, could not stand but was still dragged from his hospital bed to be returned to prison following his operation. He has been a considerable nuisance to Mr Milosevic and the ruling Serbian Socialist Party.
