The Jonathan Davis column
Article Abstract:
There have been some significant developments recently in gilts, property and index linked securities, the main types of investment assets apart from shares. Competing signals are being presented by the house price indices produced by Nationwide and Halifax, and this could have an impact on the cost of mortgages. Future mortgage costs will also be determined by the current state of the gilts market, where short term interest rates are rising while long term interest rates continue to fall. These conflicting signals are very significant in relation to the overvaluation of the stock market.

Don't overlook a market when it's down
Article Abstract:
Investors prepared to take a long-term approach should consider markets which are currently not very popular. All markets go through a boom period eventually, and this is when taking a long-term view will prove beneficial. The Japanese market, for example, is currently very weak, with profit margins near an all-time low. However, this does not mean that it will not revive. Indeed, it could even become more highly rated than Wall Street in the long term.
