The bodies in question
Article Abstract:
Sculptor Anthony-Noel Kelly has recently been arrested on charges of using body parts in the physical preparation of his sculptures. The body parts are moulded in rubber, from which a cast is then produced. The cast is sprayed in gold or silver particles, and thus bears little resemblance to the original body part. Sensationalism has always been a key element in Kelly's work, and his obsession with the body is not uncommon among contemporary artists. Some observers believe that his work lacks originality, with the cast having become too predictable.

Because of Biko
Article Abstract:
The murder of black activist Steve Biko in a police cell in Sep 1977 made almost no impact on the white community in South Africa at the time. However, his death later became a strong influencing factor in persuading many white South Africans to stop colluding with the state and speak out openly against apartheid. His legacy has been to define 'white consciousness' and to clarify the role of the white liberal. However, there are still many ways in which white South Africans have not yet come to terms with Steve Biko.

Born-again husbands - a promise or a threat?
Article Abstract:
The Promise Keepers, an all-male evangelical movement in the US, is encouraging men to rededicate themselves to their wives and children. Some observers believe that this is a positive development, but others have serious reservations. Feminists believe that the movement's approach fails to accept women as equal to men, while others fear that the movement could be a vehicle for the religious right. The movement has attracted large numbers of men, and breaks down barriers of age, race, religion and class.
