The clash of the Tartans
Article Abstract:
There is considerable tension between the media and politicians in Scotland. Scottish newspapers have accused members of the new Scottish Parliament of making poor speeches and being too interested in privileges, while politicians have indicated that the negative media attitude is endangering democracy in Scotland. The 'Daily Record,' known for its anti-nationalist stance, has been very critical of the Scottish Parliament, especially Liberal Democrat members of the Labour-Liberal Democrat coalition.

Article Abstract:
The Isle of Man differs in many ways from mainland England. It is located in the Gulf Stream, and therefore enjoys a favourable climate. It has its own language and currency, and there are strong reminders everywhere of its Celtic origins. Serious consideration is now being given by the island's leaders to the possible implications of becoming independent from the UK. This is being partly prompted by the prospect of European Union legislation destroying the island's position as a tax haven.
