The dying embers of peace
Article Abstract:
The peace process in Northern Ireland has almost totally broken down as a result of reaction to the bombing of the Killyhevlin Hotel in Eniskillen early on July 14 1996. The Primate of All Ireland, Cardinal Cahal Daly, blames the collapse of the peace process on the British government, whom he believes has let people down. The UK Labour Party wants an independent commission to review all marches and parades, according to spokeswoman, Marjorie Mowlam, who condemned the fact that the Orangemen were allowed to march in Drumcree.

Segregation nightmare that became a bloody coup for far-right hatred
Article Abstract:
Security arrangements at the recent football match in Dublin, Ireland, between England and the Republic of Ireland were not as tight as they usually are at England matches abroad, and this is one reason why right-wing extremists were able to use the match to put across their views on the current state of Anglo-Irish relations. Crowd violence erupted after the Irish team scored a goal in the 28th minute of the match, and it was some time before riot police were able to bring the situation under control.

England fans in football riot
Article Abstract:
Rioting at a friendly football match between England and the Republic of Ireland in Dublin left one person dead and 70 injured. The trouble started after Ireland scored a goal in the 28th minute, with some English fans in the Upper West tier of the stadium throwing seats and other missiles at fans sitting below. The match was abandoned soon afterwards, and the 4,500 English fans were kept in the stadium while the rest of the crowd left.
