The end is nigh, again
Article Abstract:
Former Tornado pilot Simon Pearson sincerely hopes that none of the events depicted in his book 'Total War 2006,' including biological warfare and the release of nuclear weapons, will ever happen. However, he feels that if only one of these events were to happen, then the others may be considered more seriously. He states that his main motivation for writing this book was to raise questions about the current complacency that he detects in much military and political strategy.

After 72 years (and several weeks of hype), some clouds threaten the view
Article Abstract:
Weather forecasters were predicting poor conditions for viewing the solar eclipse on Aug 11, 1999. However, there are more than 1 million people in Cornwall, England, through which the line of totality passes. Of these, half are tourists. Large numbers of people are travelling to the south-west at the last minute, but far fewer people will have travelled to view this eclipse than travelled to see the last one on the mainland of the UK, which took place in Jun 1927.
