The final word on divinity
Article Abstract:
Arnold Schoenberg composed at great speed by intuition. If interrupted, compositions often remained unfinished. Three grand unfinished works dealt with the search for religious belief: 'Jacob's Ladder,' a music drams 'Moses and Aron' and a sequence of 'Modern Psalms.' He converted from Judaism to Christianity but when anti-Semitism affected him he returned to Judaism in Paris. 'Moses and Aron,' which is a long, intense 12-tone score, will be performed at the Edinburgh Festival on Aug 16 1992.

The first genius of the keyboard
Article Abstract:
Hyperion has published the entire keyboard music of composer William Byrd, who lived from around 1540 to 1623. The almost 130 pieces are performed by Davitt Moroney, who has gained a strong reputation for his playing of French Baroque. Each of the seven discs is planned as a contrasted sequence for consecutive listening, and considerable attention has been given to matching the character of each piece to the best instrument, including clavichord, organ and harpsichord.
