The full Nelson
Article Abstract:
It has been widely believed in the UK for many generations that the Battle of Trafalgar was the greatest naval battle of the late 18th century and early 19th century. In fact, the Battle of the Nile, which took place in Aug 1798, was a much greater achievement for Admiral Nelson than Trafalgar. If the British fleet had lost this battle, the UK would have failed to regain control of the Mediterraneaukin and would have lost influence in the Middle East. Marine archaeologists are now uncovering new evidence about this battle after having located the remains of many of the French ships that sank.

Giant temple sheds new light on the Stone Age
Article Abstract:
A scientific team from English Heritage has used latest technology to locate the remains of a structure which is believed to have been a Stone Age timber temple. The building, which is thought to be 5,000 years old, is located at Stanton Drew, near Bristol, England. It was possible to identify five large pits at the centre of the building, which was probably at least 10 mt high. These may have been used for sacrificial offerings. It is now clear that there was a very complex hierarchical society during the Neolithic age in the Wiltshire and Somerset area.

Methane threatens to repeat Ice Age meltdown
Article Abstract:
The release of 2,000 billion tons of methane gas from the earth 55 million years ago pushed up temperatures in many areas of the world by 7 deg C, according to research carried out by Oxford University's department of earth sciences. Some observers believe that a series of large methane emissions, sparked off by global warming, could cause significant ecological imbalance.
