The 'gay gene' is back on the scene
Article Abstract:
Latest research in the US indicates the presence of a genetic component to homosexuality. This is more likely to pass through the maternal than the paternal line, and is possibly therefore transmitted on the X chromosome which men inherit from their mothers. Scientists involved in this research are keen to emphasise that they have not discovered a gay gene, but outside observers have been interpreting the research in this way.

CJD cases twice as likely in the North
Article Abstract:
There are now 106 confirmed cases of vCJD, the human form of BSE, in the UK, according to Professor James Ironside of the National CJD Surveillance Unit in Edinburgh, Scotland. He indicates that those who live in northern England and Scotland seem to be at twice risk of developing vCJD as those who live in southern England or Wales.

BSE: the end of a mystery?
Article Abstract:
An official committee of six scientists has identified evidence to support the view that BSE emerged in the UK because of artificial solid food being fed to very young calves. This theory is linked with the the widely accepted view that BSE is an evolved form of sheep scrapie.
