The high price of change
Article Abstract:
There are mixed views about whether the UK's urban development corporations, which were set up in 1981 and are now being closed down, have been successful. The corporations certainly created employment, as well as building 27,000 homes, 596 miles of roads and more than 5.4 million sq mt of industrial and commercial floorspace and reclaiming 2,400 ha of derelict land. Some observers believe that they have made a valuable contribution to urban regeneration. However, others point out that their work has cost at least 3 billion pounds sterling.

You're not alone. Conservatism is everywhere in decline
Article Abstract:
Conservatism is in decline across the world. This is partly because socialism has been eliminated by capitalism, thus removing one of the main reasons for the existence of conservatism, and partly because conservatism and capitalism are to a considerable extent mutually incompatible. There will continue to be a Conservative party in the UK while there are still income inequalities, but conservatism will have to adopt to the new social and political climate.
