Turkish money fails to blot out the stain of genocide

University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) has turned down Turkish funding of $1 million for a chair in Ottoman studies because Turkey wished to attach strict conditions to access to and use of Ottoman archives. Turkey is the only country that continues to deny that many Armenians died in the Holocaust of 1915. It claims that those who died were the victims of a civil war. It is now possible that the Turkish funding will go to another academic institution in the US instead.
