Issues raised by the investigation by the BBC's 'Panorama' programme of the 1982 massacre at Sabra and Shatila, Lebanon, are discussed. It is argued that events at Sabra and Shatila should not be overlooked simply because of the general violence in the Middle East.

The next struggle: how to save Afghanistan from its history
Article Abstract:
There is great nervousness in the Middle East and Pakistan about the likely outcome of Allied military action against Afghanistan. People are particularly concerned that the Allies have not indicated any interest in a realistic political process to restore Afghanistan. It is clear that there must be a viable multinational peacekeeping force.
