The literary lottery
Article Abstract:
Mixed views are frequently expressed about the Booker Prize for literature. However, it is clear that being placed on the shortlist for this award, as well as actually winning it, can have a very positive impact on an author's international profile and sales of an author's work. Some observers have criticized the Booker shortlist for excluding the wrong books, but even being excluded can bring an author welcome publicity. The effect of being shortlisted or winning does not have an impact on the quality of the work under discussion.

Natural creativity takes wing
Article Abstract:
New objects and commissions present a welcome challenge for potter Ann Stokes, who believes that she cannot work properly unless she is very excited. She believes that her background as a ballet dancer gave her a fascination for animals, as she regards all animals as dancers. She produces a wide range of animals, along with plates, casseroles, cups and saucers and other pieces. She prefers earthenware to the stoneware now used by most British potters.
