The perils of power
Article Abstract:
People who receive a promotion often find that they have gained much more power over their colleagues. In some cases, they may fall victim to the temptation to abuse this power for their own gain. There are some key indications that abuse of power may be taking place, including becoming isolated from reality and developing a sense of superiority. Those who feel that they may be abusing their power should consider the sort of atmosphere they are creating around them and whether they really listen to their colleagues, especially those at junior level.

Do our genes control us?
Article Abstract:
There has been rapid progress in genetic research over recent years, and it is now possible to state what genes actually do. It has been established that almost all types of human behaviour are influenced by both genetic and environmental factors, with these factors having around equal influence in most cases. It is important that genetic research moves towards a synthesis of these two sides, allowing for the influence of genetics but also admitting that this is a very complex influence.

The perils of genetic determinism
Article Abstract:
Most media coverage of the recent conference on the genetic influences of crime was uninformed and biased, giving the impression that all criminal behaviour can be attributed to a person's bioligical make-up. In fact, criminal behaviour is much more likely to be caused by a complicated mixture of genet and environmental influences. There is no direct correspondence between genes and behaviour patterns, and people develop as a result of the interplay with their environment.
