The moving picture show
Article Abstract:
Writer/film-makers Chris Petit and Iain Sinclair are obsessed with topics that are typically English, such as the weather and the landscape. They are also very interested in conspiracy theorizing, blurring the dividing line between fact and fiction. Their most recent work is 'The Falconer,' a fake documentary which is largely taken up with anecdotal detour and fruitless investigation. There is a sense in which Sinclair and Petit regard themselves as representatives of left-field artists, pulp novelists and counter-cultural deceivers.

Oscar material? Er, not quite...
Article Abstract:
Many different events are being held under the umbrella of the 27th International Film Festival in Rotterdam, Netherlands. However, it is possible to identify certain themes within the festival. In particular, there are indications of an imaginative reappraisal of the classic avant-garde. There are many investigations of the relationship between film and new electronics. Two pieces at the Boijmans van Beuningen Museum are very interesting for the way in which they approach the use of the moving image as a sculptural form.
