The mullah who made me change my views on Islam
Article Abstract:
Ayatollah Mohsen Kadivar, who has been sentenced to 18 months in prison by the Iranian authorities, expressed views not usually associated with Iranian religious leaders. He sought to make people aware that Islam itself is not the problem for women in the East, but traditional patriarchal structures of family life and culture that prevent women making progress. He believed that Iranian culture, rather than the Koran, is restricting women's economic independence. He was also prepared to support efforts by women to gain custody of their children, going against religious texts stating that men have an automatic right to custody of their children.

No man has the right, ever
Article Abstract:
Women are frequently defensive about men participating in the debate about rape. For many years, rape by boyfriends and husbands has been largely ignored, and men have strongly resisted any change in this situation. However, some men are now willing to work for a change in society's views about rape, and many women wish to encourage them. Attention is now turning to ways of reaching young men with campaigns designed to present the message that rape is unacceptable under any circumstances.
