Unknown who may be the political sensation of 1999
Article Abstract:
The introduction of proportional representation for the elections to the European Parliament in Jun 1999 will bring significant benefits to the Green Party in the UK. Indeed, Caroline Lucas, an Oxfam policy adviser, has a very good chance of becoming the first member of this party to gain a seat in the European Parliament. She has radical views, but is also acceptable to mainstream voters. The Green Party has become very marginalized since the late 1980s, but the forthcoming European Parliament elections could mark its revival.
