The other Mr Straw
Article Abstract:
The UK Treasury could save 4 billion pounds sterling a year if proper support and advice were given to couples and families, according to Ed Straw, partner in management consultancy Coopers & Lybrand and brother of Home Secretary Jack Straw. He regrets the fact that the government is unwilling to use more imagination in dealing with family problems. He has had personal experience of a broken home, as his father abandoned the family when he was only eight years old. He is chairman of the trustees of Relate, but did not seek professional advice when his own marriage broke up.

So you still want to send the kids to boarding school?
Article Abstract:
The recent death by asphyxiation of a 15-year-old pupil at Eton has highlighted the fact that many children at boarding schools indulge in dangerous practices to overcome the boredom associated with being in an artificial environment. In this case, pupils had been making themselves faint, but it is known that other dangerous practices take place, including inhaling substances. Experts believe that there is particularly strong peer pressure in boarding schools to behave wildly, and that a culture of dangerous behaviour can develop, especially among boys.
