The place that peace passed by

Article Abstract:

It is possible that the future of Korea's 4,000 mt-wide De-Militarised Zone (DMZ) may be decided if North Korea agrees to enter into talks with South Korea, China and the US. The DMZ has become a tourist attraction, but is also still an area of considerable tension. There is a great deal of military hardware there, and gunfire is occasionally exchanged. The DMZ is highly symbolic of the state of relations between North and South Korea, with North Korea having become totally isolated.

President Bill Clinton has indicated in a written statement that the US finds it unacceptable that the Indonesian military is encouraging militia violence in East Timor. Clinton stated that Indonesia must accept an international force to ensure that security is restored in East Timor. His intervention is designed to boost the resolve of the United Nations Security Council.

Article Abstract:

Wide-reaching internal changes have been taking place at Procter and Gamble since mid-1998. This is a risky strategy for a company with an extremely strong heritage. Pres and Chief Executive Durk Jager, who becomes Chmn in Sep 1999, aims to make Procter and Gamble truly global. He is already seen as having revived the company's fortunes in Japan in the 1980s, and corporate investors hope that he can now achieve the same thing on a corporate level.
