The real wreckers of the Union
Article Abstract:
Voters in the wealthier parts of Scotland have traditionally been strong supporters of the Conservative party, and do not necessarily want to see Scotland become independent of central government. However, they feel that they can no longer vote for the Conservative party as they are concerned about how the government has handled the issue of Scotland's future. The government is not prepared to consider devolution for Scotland, the option which would appeal most to Scottish voters who have previously supported the Conservative party.

The ghost of real politics stalk a silent, disregarded palace
Article Abstract:
The fact that the UK House of Commons is now virtually deserted in the evenings is a sign of the negative impact on Parliament of the Labour party's majority of 179. Politicians do not really seem to care about ideology any more, and the government has become inclusive. There is very little real opposition, and this means that politicians have no incentive to hold heated discussions and to hatch plots. It is vital for a thriving democracy that Parliament is active, challenging and unpredictable.
