The richest man you've never heard of
Article Abstract:
Albert Gubay, born in Rhyl in 1928, is the 25th richest man in Britain with 250 million pounds sterling. After visiting America where he saw drive-in discount supermarkets, he set up a Kwik Save discount store in Prestatyn which developed into a chain of 45 shops by 1971. His policy was to operate with minimum staff and fixtures and to sell limited lines - 450 compared to 4,000 in the average supermarket. In 1971 he sold out and went to New Zealand. In 1983 he retired from the grocery business and went to live in the Isle of Man where he became a property developer.
