The development scene
Article Abstract:
Most factory outlet villages are anchored by clothing retailers, which play a dominant role in the retail mix, primarily because women, mostly shopping for womenswear, are the main shoppers. For factory outlet villages to be successful, they must offer a wide range of goods, appealing to all the family. Outlet centres must also include a leisure dimension, such as restaurants and cafes, to attract shoppers. A key feature of factory outlet centres is their location, usually remote but often offering easy access to the motorway and trunk road network.

Forecasts
Article Abstract:
It is not expected that the development of factory outlet villages in the U.K. will falter, although operators are forecast to add to their existing sites, rather than develop new ones. It is expected that the number of factory outlet villages trading in the U.K. will reach 26 by the end of the 1990s, against 10 in 1996. Most new schemes will be situated in the English Midlands and Northern England.
