The stay-at-home heroes
Article Abstract:
It has emerged only recently that the UK set up special auxiliary units during the second world war to operate behind German lines in the event of an invasion. The members of these units were sworn to secrecy for life. It is believed that around 400 members are still alive, although only around a third have been traced. Around 4,500 people were trained, but no more than two-thirds would have been involved at any time. The members were aware that their chances of long-term survival after a German invasion would have been very small.

Bankmanship
Article Abstract:
Western bankers are negotiating with the Argentine government over payment on the country's debt, estimated at $3 billion in arerars. Bankers are unlikely to pay any more cash to Argentina until it reaches a new agreement with International Monetary Fund (IMF). Controversy over the size of the budget deficit and inflation controls have hampered these talks. Argentine officials may be committed to getting better loan terms, but are probably not willing to cease relations with the international banking business.
