Prospects
Article Abstract:
Total sales of upholstered furniture in the UK is expected to increase by 14% between 1999 and 2003 to 2.5 billion pounds sterling, according to retail intelligence forecasts. The upholstered furniture market will have a better second half in 1999 after experiencing depressed sales in the first half. Increased housemoving activity brought about by falling interest rates and competitive mortgage agreements will remain to be a big factor in boosting furniture purchase.

Prices
Article Abstract:
Retail prices of upholstered furniture have the tendency to fluctuate for the last 24 months. Most retailers slashed their prices when the market experienced in 1997 a drop in retail sales. However, prices started to stabilize in 1998 as it became evident that consumers were placing more importance on quality and value instead of price. Most often, quality and image are reflected on the price even though players in the upholstery market vary in their prices.
