Bordeaux in crisis as buyers lose their bottle
Article Abstract:
French and foreign wine purchasers have been extremely cautious about the 1998 Bordeaux vintage, even though it is of very high quality. There is almost no demand at all for fine Bordeaux, following a period during which the price of Bordeaux rose to very high levels. The main reason for the lack of demand from purchasers is that producers have been too greedy, pushing prices far too high. The market will not revive until 1998 prices come down, regardless of how good the vintage is.
