Some UK companies are still opposed to the idea of their employees taking a year off to travel. However, others are becoming more flexible, offering official career breaks. Adjusting to life without a steady income can be difficult, but having a change from a routine job can be very refreshing. Some people find it difficult to adjust to normal life again when they return from travelling, but generally have no regrets about having taken a year off.

It is vital to avoid taking sides when personnel problems arise, and it is also important to remain calm and rational. Young mangers must take care not to use their position of authority in a conflict situation, but must also not fall into the trap of avoiding conflict altogether and always trying to be popular.
