It can be argued that the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Centre and the Pentagon, although spectacular, did not really change anything. Big business was already in decline, so the high level of redundancies cannot be attributed to the attacks. President George Bush did not really suddenly become a respected statesman as a result of the attacks.

Article Abstract:
The terrorist attacks on the World Trade Centre and the Pentagon were the worst in modern history. However, nothing about them, including hatred of US arrogance, was new. These attacks will probably have a less direct impact on history than Pearl Harbor.
