There's a future in steel
Article Abstract:
British Steel claims to be attracting graduates because, contrary to public perception, the company is not in decline. Earnings have fallen during 1996-1998, but this is attributed to worldwide economic turbulence and the strength of the UK currency. British Steel has a 315 million pounds sterling pre-tax profit on almost 7 billion pounds sterling turnover and the company claims to be one of the leading three steel manufacturers worldwide. The company sponsors students and uses work placements to identify potential recruits.

Venom that breathes new life into the heart
Article Abstract:
ACE inhibitor therapy, which treats high blood pressure and heart failure, involves drugs created from Brazilian pit viper venom. It stops the formation of angiotensin II and lowers blood pressure. A Scandinavian trial, Consensus, gave enalapril, Merck Sharp and Dohme's ACE inhibitor, to 250 heart failure patients, whose symptoms were relieved and death rate reduced by one-third. The Fourth International Study of Infarct Survival (ISIS-4) will compare use of captopril and other drugs.
