The lies that built up Russia
Article Abstract:
Historical fabrications built up the Russian Empire. The government relied on force and depended on foreign expansion to compensate for deficiencies in the economy. The 17th century Time of Troubles and the 1918-22 Russian Civil War show violent reaction to violent policies. Between the collapse of the Russian Empire in 1918 and the formation of the USSR in 1922 national republics broke away, but the West ignored them. Ukraine sought independence but the Bolsheviks took it back and renamed the capital Kiev. Siberia, which is as big as the US, broke away in 1918.

The man who built a bridge to the past
Article Abstract:
Republican presidential candidate Bob Dole's gradual but sometimes unsteady career progression highlights his very determined view of the world. He seems to believe that life is harsh and painful, and often makes references to the problems he experienced in the past. His approach to campaigning implies that he now deserved to be elected president, as he has worked very hard in US politics for many years. However, this view means that he has very little of real substance to offer voters.
