Time to plant out your summer love-apples
Article Abstract:
The tomato is a very rewarding vegetable to grow, especially as home-grown tomatoes generally taste much better than those on sale in supermarkets. Tomatoes can be grown in a number of different ways, including in a heated or unheated greenhouse or outdoors in containers, growing bags or the open ground. The best tomato varieties for cordon growing are 'Alicante,' 'Sungold' and 'Tigerella,' while the best bush cultivars include 'Red Alert' and 'The Amateur.'

The shrubbery that's good enough to eat
Article Abstract:
There are a number of ornamental shrubs that produce fruits and berries. These include Berberis (barberry), Crataegus (hawthorn) and Gaultheria procumbens (wintergreen). It is also worth considering the Elaeagnus family of shrubs. Elaeagnus macrophylla, an evergreen, produces red fruits in Apr, while Quicksilver, a suckering, deciduous shrub, is extremely hardy in harsh conditions and produces yellow, scented flowers in summer.
