Decisions made by Japanese politicians about how to deal with the country's economic crisis will have repercussions in the emerging markets of Asia, in Europe and in the US. Japan has been seriously affected recently by economic slowdown in south-east Asia, and Japan's difficulties are now starting to be felt outside the region. There could be particularly severe problems for the UK, which has very close commercial links with Japan. Areas which could be affected include tourism, education and manufacturing.
