Too good to be forgotten
Article Abstract:
Joe Harriott, who died in 1973, was one of the UK's greatest ever jazz musicians, but he has remained in relative obscurity. He put together his own group in 1953, at a time when exciting developments were taking place in jazz. He was influenced by Charlie Parker, but developed his own musical identity. He had a strong personality, and his music was very forceful and decisive. He broke new ground and gained considerable critical acclaim, but his profile remained low. This is partly because he was extremely proud and did not seek to become part of the general jazz scene in the UK.

The world is just a great big tortellone
Article Abstract:
Sales of pasta in the UK reached 159 million pounds sterling in 1995, with sales having increased by 48% in the period 1991-1995. Pasta has become so popular because it is easy to cook and can be combined with many other foods. It fits in well with modern eating habits, is inexpensive and is regarded as a healthy food. It breaks down the barriers between eating and cooking, and allows even the most inexperienced cook to feel that it has been possible to produce an appealing meal.

The Great Bore in its time - a forgotten gem in ours
Article Abstract:
The 1,250 ft-long Thames Tunnel, which forms part of London Underground's East London Line, was one of the most advanced engineering achievements of the 19th century. It took almost 20 years to build, and its construction entailed considerable physical danger for those involved. However, its value and significance are no longer recognised, and it will soon be extensively altered by London Underground, thus being lost forever.
