Traditional Scottish exports stay at home
Article Abstract:
There has been a significant decline in mobility among Scottish graduates over recent years. Indeed, 93% of Scottish graduates entering employment in 1996 did so in Scotland, compared with around three quarters in 1992. Scottish graduates tend only to seek employment outside Scotland when the Scottish economy is in decline or when they wish to work in a very specific sector. A number of initiatives have been implemented to ensure that unemployment or under-employment are not problems among Scottish graduates.

Great scope to be anything but a chemist
Article Abstract:
Chemical engineers and chemists suffer from the recession in 1992 and almost one in five of the 2,500 graduate chemists and 900 chemical engineers work in finance, one in ten in sales and marketing. In the chemical industry cooperation with other scientists is standard. The industry will participate in solving world problems. The variety of employment open to chemists includes art restoration, food preservation, forensic science and nuclear energy. Publishing, teaching and patenting are alternative options.

Hitch your wagon to a sponsor scheme
Article Abstract:
Demand for graduates is falling except in areas such as engineering, where employers are sponsoring students in the hope of avoiding future graduate shortages and also to compete with European companies in recruitment of quality graduates. An Association of Graduate Recruiters (AGR) survey predicts only a 4% rise in demand for graduates in 1992. However, over 5,500 students are sponsored annually, most of these in technical/engineering disciplines.
