Children should stay at school till 5.30pm
Article Abstract:
There would be many benefits to society as a whole in the UK from keeping children at school until 5.30pm. This would overcome the problem of children being unsupervised between the end of school and the return of their parents from work, thus dramatically reducing problems such as shoplifting, vandalism and drug taking. It would give valuable time for activities of significant educational value which have been marginalized in schools as a result of the core curriculum and earlier school finishing times. These include art, drama and music. Teachers would be compensated for the later finishing time with free periods at other times during the day.

When teachers won't admit any mistake
Article Abstract:
Parents who raise concerns about their child's educational achievements may find that teachers are reluctant to accept any responsibility for underachievement or any criticism of their methods. In some cases, teachers' accounts of what is taking place in the classroom differ considerably from those of the child who is underachieving. It is true that children may sometimes gain incorrect impressions, but there are also cases where teachers try to cover up for their mistakes and poor performance.
