Trip-hopping a la Francaise
Article Abstract:
France's pop music culture has in the past been largely based on acts from abroad. However, there are now indications that French pop musicians are beginning to show creativity. The stature of the country's dance music has greatly improved since 1996, with acts including Dimitri, Daft Punk and M.C. Solaar having gained an international following. French techno, house and 'trip-hop' have become particularly popular in the UK. There is still strong interest in jazz music in France, and soundtracks continue to influence many French musicians.

From Genesis to re-evaluation
Article Abstract:
A four-CD boxed set collection entitled 'The Genesis Archive' and featuring the music of rock group Genesis when Peter Gabriel was a member has been released. This collection highlights what made the group's albums of this era distinctive. It invites the listener to re-appraise long-held prejudices about Genesis, including that the group was excessively theatrical in its presentation and that it represents the worst excesses of the progressive rock era.
