Two days that sealed fate of redundant rig
Article Abstract:
Greenpeace International took the decision to oppose the disposal at sea of Royal Dutch/Shell's Brent Spar oil rig very quickly. It started campaigning at the end of Apr 1995, placing protestors on the rig, and soon stepped up its activities as the Brent Spar was towed across the North Sea. In contrast, it took Royal Dutch/Shell a considerable length of time to decide to abandon its plans. It only did so after the Greenpeace campaign attracted a lot of public attention and after strong pressure from the governments of Germany, Sweden, Denmark and the Netherlands.

BP accused on death threats
Article Abstract:
There has been extreme pressure on people campaigning against BP's activities in Colombia, especially from the army and paramilitary groups, according to Richard Howitt, Labour MEP for Essex South. This has even gone as far as bodyguards of a senior executive of the company in Colombia making death threats against a protester. Howitt is now calling for BP to review its relationship with the Colombian army, which is guarding controversial oil installations.
