The challenges facing Afghanistan's Taliban regime as it prepares itself militarily for a possible strike by the US in response to the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Centre and the Pentagon are considered. Its army is small and relatively poorly equipped, and its success will depend on the type of war that emerges.
